The other ATS coordinate system is ATS VDH. In this system H is chosen parallel to the Earth's spin axis. V is the local vertical. Since ATS-1 is in the Earth's equatorial plane, V is perpendicular to H. Finally, D, completes the right-handed set (D = H x V) and is azimuthal, eastwards in the equatorial plane. |
