Term: NMA
Definition: (Name Mapping Authority) An organization that provides services for named things, such as delivery of digital content and metadata.
Examples: Many kinds of identifier have one or more NMA components. This includes the hostname in a URL or ARK, and the hostname and local authority in a DOI or Handle.

Often an NMA starts out as an NAA, but in the long term, successor and/or competing organizations will assume NMA roles. Two NMAs may differ in services provided for any given name, or even to what object the name refers.
