Definition: Phase of an adiabatic expansion process during which the ascending saturated air condenses some of its water vapour directly into snow. The snow stage begins at the condensation level if it is situated above the freezing level.  WMOMeteoterm 

Part of an obsolete conceptual model of air parcel ascent referring to conditions under which the condensation level is at a temperature below freezing and it is assumed that all condensed vapor immediately freezes.
