a wind tunnel where the test section is not enclose in a duct as part of the wind tunnel circuit but rather is placed downstream of the tunnel exhaust

Examples:

An open jet wind tunnel is useful for destructive testing where pieces of the model can blow away from the wind tunnel itself.
