long crested wave Ocean surface waves that are nearly two-dimensional, in that the crests appear very long in comparison with the wavelength, and the energy propagation is concentrated in a narrow band around the mean wave direction. Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
long duration event With reference to x-ray events, those events that are not impulsive in appearance. The exact time threshold separating impulsive from long-duration events is not well defined, but operationally, any e vent requiring 30 minutes or more to decay to one-half peak flux is regarded as an LDE. It has been shown that the likelihood of a coronal mass ejection increases with the duration of an x-ray event, and becomes virtually certain for durations of 6 hours or more. Longitude The angular distance measured west or east from a north-south line called the Prime Meridian (SPASE) Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
Longitude The angular distance measured west (positive)or east (negative) from a north-south line called the Prime Meridian. Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16

Longitude of the ascending node One of the orbital elements used to specify the orbit of an object in space. It is the angle from the reference direction, called the origin of longitude, to the direction of the ascending node, measu red in the reference plane. Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
Longitude of the descending node No definition provided Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
Longitude--Prime meridian No definition provided Christopher Rauch 2023.12.01
longitudinal No definition provided Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
longitudinal component That component of the solar magnetic field vector parallel to the direction of view, radial from the solar surface at disk center. Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
Longitudinal crevasse A crevasse oriented more or less parallel to the long axis of a glacier. Longitudinal crevasses typically open on a valley glacierwhen the glacier becomes wider. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
longitudinal wave Longitudinal waves are waves that have vibrations along or parallel to their direction of travel. They include waves in which the motion of the medium is in the same direction as the motion of the wav e. Mechanical longitudinal waves have been also referred to as compressional waves or pressure waves Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
