Nilas A thin elastic crust offloating ice, easily bending on waves and swell and rafting under pressure. It has a matt surface and is up to 10 cm thick. When under about 5 cm in thickness it is very dark in colour; when more than 5 cm, rather lighter. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Nilas A thin elastic crust of ice, easily bending on waves and swell and under pressure, thrusting in a pattern of interlocking 'fingers' (finger rafting). Has a matt surface and is up to 10cm in thickness. May be subdivided into dark nilas and light nilas. Dark nilas is 5cm thick and very dark in colour.
