deposit Deposition is the geological process by which material is added to a landform or land mass. Fluids such as wind and water, as well as sediment gravity flows, transport previously eroded sediment, whic h, at the loss of enough kinetic energy in the fluid, is deposited, building up layers of sediment. [Wikipedia] Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
deposition Phenomena by which traces gases or particles are transferred from atmosphere to a surface. Ryan McGranaghan 2023.04.16
Deposition The process by which a vapour changes phase directly into a solid; resublimation is a synonym. See latent heat of sublimation. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Deposition (1) A process by which gases are deposited as a solid without first forming as a liquid (inverse sublimation). Surface hoar (SH) growth at the surface of the snowpack as well as recrystallization of s now within the snowpack (FC, DH) result from deposition of water vapour on ice. (2) The process by which snow is deposited on the ground either with or without wind action. As a result, stationary snow deposits such as snow dunes, snowdrifts, or the snow cover itself may form. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Deposition (1) The change in state of matter from gas to solid that occurs with cooling. Usually used in meteorology when discussing the formation of ice from water vapor. This process releases latent heat energ y to the environment. (2) Laying down of sediment transported by wind, water, or ice. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Depositional landform Is a landform formed from the deposition of weathered and eroded surface materials. On occasion, these deposits can be compressed, altered by pressure, heat and chemical processes to become sedimentar y rocks. This includes landforms with some of the following geomorphic features: beaches, deltas, floodplains, and glacial moraines. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
