Term: Fracturing
Definition: Deformation process whereby ice is permanently deformed, and fracture occurs.  NOAAHydrology 

A pressure process whereby ice is permanently deformed, and rupture occurs. Most commonly used to describe breaking across fast ice, ice breccia, compact ice and ice fields.  Bushuyev 

Any break or rupture through close ice, compact ice, consolidated ice, fast ice, or a single floe resulting from shears and deformation processes.
