Definition: An ice sheet in the form of a long border attached to the bank or shore; border ice.  NOAAHydrology 

Basic form of fast ice: a compact ice cover attached to the shore and, in shallow waters, also grounded.  WMOHydrology 

Compact sea ice that is attached to the shore or to anchoring points on the sea bed. It is a type of fast ice, and may sometimes be rafted ice or ice that has been beached by wind, tides, currents, or by ice pressure.  AMSglossary
