Term: | Gravimetric (total) water content |
Definition: | The ratio of the mass of the water and Ice in a sample to the dry mass of the sample, commonly expressed as a percentage. Because of the way it is defined, the gravimetric total water content can greatly exceed 100%. During thawing of a sample of Frozen Ground the gravimetric total water content remains constant, unless excess water is allowed to drain out of the sample. |
